Celebrating My 21st

In just over three weeks there is a cause for celebration – it will be my 21st….time I will have moved house/flat/apartment.

For a moment there, you were looking at my picture above and shaking your head. I wouldn’t have believed it either.

I have to admit that my first three addresses were that of my parents but at the tender age of 17 I was shown the door of independence. Actually I was pushed out at about 1 o’clock one December morning, but that’s a story for another time.

So, why so many moves?

Low threshold boredom maybe.

Whatever the reason, I’m always reminded of the fact that moving house is supposed to be one of the major stressful activities we experience.

I can say, hand on heart that I’ve never found this to be case.

One move involved me carrying half a dozen plastic bags to a shared flat. This was the total sum of my belongings. Hardly stressful, more a case of “why didn’t I take a trolley to do the weekly shop” type of moment.

Consider this for a potentially stressful period.

The last time we moved was five years ago (seems a lifetime ago in moving terms). My wife was pregnant and I had just finished a six month treatment of chemotherapy. I started to load the van at 8.30 in the morning and by 2.30 in the afternoon our helpful band of moving assistants were sitting down to pizza and beer in our new apartment. Job done!

Was it stressful?

No.

I believe it was all down to planning and preparation (combined with experience as a touring theatre stage manager).

At the moment, although I’m surrounded by boxes already packed with many more still to be done, I’m feeling confident about this move. There are other planned events which I have to work around.

We’re meeting up with friends next weekend who are over from the UK. The following weekend we then take my daughter to France so that she can spend two weeks with her grandparents. Samia and I then fly back to Barcelona for a couple of days for the final push before the big day.

Having done the work beforehand, and practised it many times, come the day it is so much easier.

Of course, my business still needs to be attended to but as most of it runs on auto-pilot, it’s easy to manage.

Which leads me nicely in a roundabout sort of way, to the latest product from Keith Purkiss and John Thornhill, Push Button Giveaways 2.0.

Keith has created a product that makes the whole process of using giveaway events to build your list of subscribers so much faster and efficient. Do the job once and then on the day, click a few buttons and you’re ready to go.

John, who surprisingly had never particpated in a giveaway event, tested the process with some good results. He reckoned it could have been better had he offered a different product. Either way, I’ve seen his results and they’re not too bad.

There’s a lot more to Push Button Giveaways 2.0, which I believe is going to make using giveaway events a quicker and more enjoyable process.

Push Button Giveaways 2.0I found the time, in between packing boxes, to put together a bonus for you when you purchase Push Button Giveaways 2.0 through my affiliate link. You can get more information at Push Button Giveaways 2.0 Bonus.

If you like systems that make your business run smoothly, this is for you.

And now back to that 21st celebration – where did I put the gaffa tape?

  1. Hi John, you had me there  I was one of those that zoomed into your photo and said something that I wouldn’t type here.

The next line of text had me chuckling my bits off, love your sense of humour.

I know what you mean about moving, it’s not stressfull at all. Mind you John, i’m in a wheelchair so my part is just point and push ha ha I don’t think my wife would agree

Best of luck with the rest of the unpacking and enjoy the trips you have planned.

Oh and John, thanks for comming over to my blog and answering my request for advice, your detailed comment is very much appreciated.

  2. Hi Barry

    Thanks for dropping by.

I hope your wife doesn’t read all your posts – if she does, you’re in big trouble…

I’ll keep you updated about a possible development concerning my suggestion. I’ll say no more at this stage but I’ll let you know.

That’s got you wondering hasn’t it!

  3. Hi John,

Arrived here through a re-tweet from Barry Wells.

23 x’s. I’ve moved 23x’s. Only just counted there now because you’d told us your story. And, I’v been 36 now for a number of years, so if it was your 21st B’day you’re celebrating, cheers ;-)

Have fun unpacking, I often found things that I couldn’t remember packing it!

    Take Care

  4. Hi Julie

21st birthday…I wish! Try telling that to my 22 year old son.

It’s so long ago I honestly don’t remember how I celebrated.

    Thanks for visiting.

    All the best

    John

  5. Time to take out the shot glasses and make a toast to the move! I know what you mean about getting bored. However, for me, it’s rearranging my livingroom or bedroom. Congratulations and good luck!

  6. Hi Diane

I’d join you in a toast if I can find the box containing the glasses!

My wife is very good at moving things around. “Why?”, I ask.

Samia – “Because I don’t like it where it is.”

    John – “But it’s been there for 4 years…”

    Samia “Exactly.”

    John “??!!??”

I’ll stop there; I’ll be getting into trouble…again.

    Thanks for dropping by, Diane.

    Best wishes

    John

  7. That must be some sort of record, people normally move 2-3 times in their life. But i like the way you think and how you make it sound so normal :) )
    Anyway, congrats!

  8. I am curious about that story of yours when you were forced to leave home. But anyways, that is not the thing here. I guess moving is a very stressful thing to do. That’s why I’m so impressed with you since you can handle it at all.

  9. Hi John

How have you managed to move 21 times without having a nervous breakdown (lol).

Don’t forget to keep the kettle handy so that you can have a nice cup of tea to calm you down.

    Good luck with the move.

  11. Hi Adrian

A part of my teenage years that wasn´t a lot of fun. It´s in the book, when I get round to revising it!

  12. Its just the fact that moving continuously subjects us to newer environments which kicks out monotonousity from our lives which in turn keeps our productivity scales high.

  14. Congratulations on the move. I do have to say that moving 21 times in a lifetime might end up in the Guinness Book of World Records :) Is the move for a change or a certain reason?

  15. I’ve been living here since i was born, so i have no way of knowing how it is to move even once. And look at you, 21 times!? This must be a record however you look at it. It probably makes you feel really free.

To escape the hustle and bustle of Barcelona.
I do enjoy the peace and quiet of village life although as I type, a neighbour is using
some type of vacuum cleaner to clear the dead leaves from their garden and this has
set off all the dogs barking!
    You can’t have everything…
